Well, well, well:)
Another great book that discusses the topic of intentional practice is what this blog page is about:)
For me practice seemed to go on for ever and ever with no end, this would usually end up with me a little tense at the end and still feeling like I was very far away from where I wanted to be musically.
I had tried my best to get focused on the task, but just didn’t seem to be able to make the headway I wanted into the music I was studying, sound familiar? If so read on.
It is over the last few months that I have been exploring ways of getting more out of practice and I began to focus more and more on what was occurring inside my own mind as a possible helper or hinderer, but wasn’t sure what I was dealing with. Initially it seemed simple, set goal, work towards goal, arrive at goal, happiness! But the goal seemed to lie just beyond my reach and I kept encountering some serious obstacles to my growth. What this led to was looking for external reasons for the problem and an overwhelming amount of self doubt to boot and also some type of external help.
The help came in the form of 2 books, The Inner Game of Music, which you can find on a previous blog and The Art Of Practicing by Madeline Bruser.
It is the later of these 2 that I am currently digesting and it is proving to be an absolute mindblower.
If you get the chance, loan from your library or buy it as it is a book you won’t regret owning.
That is all:)
